Robbie, Take That top reunion wish list

Robbie Williams and Take That have topped a poll to find the group that most people would like to see reunite this year.

The singer and his former bandmates received 37% of the votes in the MTV survey, narrowly beating competition from rival boyband Blue.

Williams left Take That in 1995 but recent reports have suggested that he is planning to rejoin the group at their forthcoming Wembley Stadium gig.

His manager Tim Clark has fuelled the speculation by saying that the band are "great friends again", adding: "Whether Robbie pops up at Wembley Stadium is up to him. But he is not going to become a full-time member."

Blue were ranked in second place after polling 30% of the total vote. The group, who sold over seven million records worldwide, parted ways in 2005.

Earlier this month, singer Duncan James dismissed the idea of a reunion, telling DS: "It is not going to happen...We might get back and do the odd tour here and there or the odd gig but we're never going to go back and do another studio album."

The top five bands that MTV viewers want to see reform are:

1. Take That and Robbie Williams (37%)
2. Blue (30%)
3. Led Zeppelin (16%)
4. The Smiths (10%)
5. The Stone Roses (7%)

Take That's Jason Orange spotted at New Kids On The Block O2 show

There was a bit of boyband mutual appreciation going on at the New Kids On The Block show at the O2 on Saturday.

We spotted Take That's Jason Orange among the screaming girls in the capacity crowd. And New Kid Jordan Knight told us: "Back For Good is an amazing song. I've never met Take That but they seem really cool guys.

"It's great they admit we influenced them. Some people don't think it's cool to admit they liked us back in the day."

Robbie will never come back

Pop star ROBBIE WILLIAMS has vowed never to rejoin his old TAKE THAT bandmates - and is determined to outstrip them in the charts.
The Angels star has hired a personal trainer as part of an attempt to rekindle his ailing solo career, according to British tabloid News Of The World.
And, contrary to speculation, Williams has said his future plans do not involve his former colleagues, who are currently enjoying a successful comeback.
Williams tells a source, "I've got plans which involve me and nobody else. I'm going to beat them in the charts; I'll sell more records than anybody else."
His comments will upset his old bandmates, who have hinted at a possible reunion with the singer in 2009.
At the end of 2008, Williams went so far as to reveal he and his former bandmates had held discussions about the singer rejoining the boy band.
In a heartfelt post on his website, Williams wrote, "We got together a lot over the summer. It was amazing. We've all matured a lot since we parted. I'm very pleased to say the differences we've had have just melted away.
After they left I felt like a ton of bricks had been removed from my shoulders. We'd put right what an awful lot of other broken bands fail to do... The thing that struck me the most was how much fun they're having. It's more rewarding when you're a gang. Ever since I left Take That I've wanted to be in a band."
Williams even confessed to having the Take That symbol tattooed on his skin.
And Take That star Mark Owen revealed he felt sure there would be a surprise reunion in 2009: "With Rob, it would be an unannounced thing. I've a feeling that halfway through the show we'd get a message to say that he wanted to come up and sing a song. I doubt it'd ever be a prepared, organised thing. If he does turn up it'll be a nice surprise."

Entrevista a Howard

AS part of Take That, Howard Donald is one of the most successful pop stars in the UK. This summer the band embark on a sold-out 20-date arena tour that includes gigs at Hampden Park. However, as a DJ Howard is less well-known. It was his passion, even before Take That, and it became his career when the band split in 1996. But who is Howard Donald the DJ? Here, the 40-year-old fills us in...

Q LOOKING forward to playing in Glasgow at the end of March?

A DEFINITELY looking forward to it as I haven't DJd in Scotland for some time. I think the last time was in Edinburgh, I can't be sure, but I always have good memories of it. I love the Scottish crowd - they really know how to party.

Q YOU'RE perhaps known a bit better internationally as a DJ than you are within the UK.

For those that haven't heard your sets before describe your style?

A I'D like to think that wasn't true because alongside my agency Fresh we have worked really hard to ensure people do take me seriously as a DJ, particularly in the UK, because people in the UK are more sceptical than anywhere else. My style is underground electro with a few vocals dropped in.

Q WHEN did your passion for DJing start to develop?

A I HAVE always had a passion for DJing even before the band started the first time round when I was playing clubs in Manchester.

Q HOW hard was it for you to be respected as a DJ after TT split?

A IT was very difficult, it would have been very easy to go after the money and sell myself out by playing in big commercial clubs but that isn't what I'm about. It's all about the music for me and although promoters in the UK do seem to be taking me seriously now, it's taken a long time to get to this point, whereas in Germany where I play a lot they were very open-minded and accepted me as a DJ almost straight away.

Q DO you feel your success with TT has been a help or a hindrance when it comes to establishing yourself as a credible DJ?

A NOW that's the six million dollar question. Without it people would never have known who I was, but equally because of it people expected me to be a commercial DJ. So in a way it helped, but it definitely also hindered at the start.

Q ARE you finding it difficult these days to balance work with TT and DJing?

A IT'S always been difficult to juggle things because first and foremost my family and daughters take priority and I will always make time for them. Obviously the TT schedule is very hectic and my DJing is fitted in between wherever possible.

Q ARE any of the other TT boys any good behind the decks?!

AHA HA, they have all had a go at some point I'm sure, but never really taken it seriously.

Q YOU'VE also been quite busy on the production front - anything we should be looking out for in 2009 from you?

A I COMPLETED a track last year called Going Home which I play out and had some good feedback for. You can hear it if you log on to my website www.howarddonald.co.uk

Q WHAT are the plans for Howard Donald the DJ in 2009?

A MORE of the same, really. I obviously have the TT tour this summer so that will take up most of my time but before and after I'll be squeezing as much DJing in as I possibly can, that's for sure.

Q WHAT can the Glasgow crowd expect from you?

A GOOD quality house music.

Howard plays Sabado@ Byblos on Saturday, March 28, 11pm-4am, tickets £15.

Take That on sex, suicide and Robbie's UFOs

They're the biggest man band on the planet with 11 No.1 singles to their name, but now Take That have lifted the lid on another side of their success story, their top hits between the sheets.

In their most telling interview to-date, family man Gary Barlow insists it was he who was the the group's champion puller in their early days.

'In Amsterdam I slept with a fan. A chubby Dutch girl. And carried on from there,' shocks Barlow.

The dad of three, tells Q magazine he shed his Mr Sensible attitude in 1992 and racked up the bed notches.

'On a scale of one to 10 I did alright. I didn't go out looking for it every night. It lands on your doorstep. Every time we went away for two or three weeks I'd have a little run of relationships on the way.'

Meanwhile, the last singleton in the group Jason Orange blames religion for holding him back.

'I was brought up a Mormon until I was 15. There's supposed to be no sex before marriage. You're supposed to be modest about your sexuality. There were times when we were being overtly sexual onstage and I'd think "Is this right?"' tells Orange, 38.

Howard Donald, 40, says the boys were wrong to be touted as role models because they were being sex hypocrites.

'I remember throwing lots of condoms out to assembly at schools. I felt a bit stupid, to be honest. One minute we're rubbing jelly all over our arses and the next we're telling teenagers not to have sex', says Donald.

Meanwhile, Gary, 38, reveals the band still feel pained over recluse Robbie Williams, despite mending some bridges last year. He now blames himself for being 'domineering'.

'I feel quite sorry for him and my natural instinct is to help him. But even after 10 years he's one of us still. He longs to be one of us still, so I feel sorry for him. His life, could be better I think', says Barlow.

'All this UFO stuff is a laugh with the press. He's like that. You are always on the butt-end of his sense of humour.'

Barlow remains suspect on how Williams will make his much hyped return with the band on stage some day soon. 'Out of a UFO with a big beard? I don't think it will happen' he jokes.

Meanwhile Take That remain wary of the manufactured pop acts on the scene.

'Half the singers off The X Factor are better than us' says Orange.

'If Simon (Cowell) could give his acts the story we have, then he'd have the ultimate pop act', admits Barlow.

Meanwhile Howard Donald says he now feels like 'a c**k' after contemplating killing himself in the river Thames after Barlow became successful as a solo star.

He stopped his tragic plan after thinking: 'Don't be such a d**k'

'Knowing me I'll end up in the middle of the river and the tide will go out and I'll be in the papers stuck in the Thames mud looking like a c**k.'

Meanwhile, Gary admits Victoria Beckham turned down his offer to work with her, saying she then had 'a pop at me in the Spiceworld movie... but I was the easiest target imaginable.'

TT: Our guilt over Robbie

TAKE THAT have confessed their guilt at failing to notice the warning signs as the wheels fell off ROBBIE WILLIAMS’ life.

But they are ready to make it up to their troubled former bandmate — and have repeated their plea for Robbie to rejoin them.

GARY BARLOW has admitted there was “a series of events we should have spotted” as Robbie went off the rails before quitting the band in 1995.

He added: “That’s my one regret. I missed the signs. I think we all did.”

And the lads have given their frankest ever account of the depths Robbie plunged to as he launched into a battle with booze and drugs that would end in rehab and exile in Los Angeles.

HOWARD DONALD revealed: “I spoke to Rob about it last summer. I said I was sorry I never took the time to notice he was drinking a bottle of vodka a day.

“We smoked weed and giggled like idiots. Before Take That I dabbled with drugs, watching Sasha DJ in Ashton-under-Lyne. LSD mainly.

I feel quite proud now I don’t take drugs and hardly drink.

“But Robbie was different. He has a more addictive personality, maybe, and he was unhappy.”

MARK OWEN chipped in: “Sometimes we’d joke and say we wanted to be in OASIS. But he actually did want to be in Oasis. I feel a bit guilty now that I wasn’t mature enough to hear his cries.”

Gary added: “Rob would go to Dublin or somewhere and get off his head. Then he’d come home and say: ‘I haven’t slept for two days.’

“He didn’t want to go home and face his mum so he’d come to me first.

He’s one of us still, so I feel sorry for him and my natural instinct is to help him. His life could be better.”

As revealed in The Sun last year, the band are now ready to welcome Robbie back.

Mark wanted him to sing on Happy Ending, a track planned for current album The Circus, but the others rejected the idea of including the song on the CD.

However Jason said: “The Happy Ending track was a good opportunity.

“Let’s get him back as quickly as possible.”

Howard reckons Robbie will reunite with the band, saying: “I think it will happen one day.”

And even Gary — Robbie’s biggest rival over the years — is warming to the idea. However not just for a gig on this year’s tour, but to be totally involved.

He said: “I don’t think the way for him to come back would be the stage shows. If I wanted Rob to do something again it would be on a creative level.”

And I’m sure they would all keep a better eye on him this time.

Britannia Low

TEEN music drama Britannia High has been AXED — after just one series.

The much-hyped £2million show, created by Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips and Take That songwriter Gary Barlow, has been ditched due to poor ratings.

It centred around the lives and dreams of kids at a drama school.

[...]

They sang tunes written by 37-year-old Gary, Take That bandmate Mark Owen and Robbie Williams’ former musical partner Guy Chambers.

The show also featured high- profile celebrity appearances from guest stars including Boyzone and Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.

TV bosses had high hopes for the show.

[...]

“Sadly the stories of these youngsters vying for their dreams didn’t seem to capture viewers’ imagination.

“The credit crunch is affecting everything, not least TV. A second series of Britannia High was just not viable.”

Robbie back for Take That movie

POTTY pop legend Robbie Williams is to rejoin Take That ... but only on the big screen.

We can reveal he and former bandmate Gary Barlow want to make a biopic about the band.

And now the reclusive Robster is set to be tempted back into the public eye.

When alien-obsessed Robbie, 34, met Gary, 37, in LA last month it sparked a flood of misguided rumours about him rejoining the reformed band.

But rather than get him Back For Good, they instead discussed putting Robbie’s days as “the Fat Dancer” on film.

A pal of The Robster said: “Robbie spends most of his time these days playing football or relaxing in his LA mansion.

“It takes a lot to get him excited, but the thought of having his years in Take That made into a movie has done just that.

“The thought of seeing himself on the big screen obviously appeals to his ego.”

There might still be a spanner in the works, as film bosses want the flick to centre just on the 2005 reunion of Howard, Mark, Gary and Jason.

Perhaps Robbie could wangle a Hollywood-style ending, featuring a troupe of aliens and some spacecraft.
