Take That: Beatuiful World Live rating: ***
The comeback of pop's 1990s darlings wasn't universally welcomed: camptastic boy bands aren't everyone's cup of tea after all. But those with a penchant for a little thrust in their chart hits embraced Take That's European tour return with almost obscene enthusiasm. And no one is more boyishly enthusiastic on Beautiful World Live than the band who won Best Live Act at the Brit Awardsblast week. Tanned, toned and with more syncopated dance moves than ever, the four are like wind-up toys let loose on stage.
The fact that they then perform so many perversely sleepy love songs is a real disappointment. It's in part due to their latest ballad-filled album, but even their classics get slowed down. Voodoo themed stage design and a scene where Howard turns the arena into a nurave club are a little OTT. Still, when the lads perform at full pelt on Never Forget and Shine, they show off just how entertaining and lovable they can be. And the bit where Mark pinches gary's bum is priceless.
Extras: Lacklustre second disc with commentary, singalong subtitles and backstage footage.
